 Moonbase model |
| This moon base model uses the buildings
from the vintage Fundimensions kit, but measures eighteen inches square,
and improvements have been made with a more accurate layout including the
full compliment of five reworked launch pads and more accurate travel tube
locations not available with the standard kit. The bulk of the model is
cast in one piece from urethane plastic - no awkward joints to fill. The
only part required for assembly of this Moonbase is the Main Centre building,
which is molded separately and can be fastened with superglue.
The model is molded in off-white, urethane resin and could be painted with enamels, acrylics, or lacquers. I also made printed high quality self-stick decals for the crest and realistically weathered launch pads.
The molded lunar surface on this model is extremely detailed with craters, cracks, hills and volcanic rock, and closely matches the style that was seen on the original FX miniature when compared to the old vac-formed Fundimensions/ERTL kit, and is bigger. The model is surrounded by a stylized frame which approaches the textural design of the buildings.
